ASTM International to Lead Panel on Consumer Product Safety at Major Brussels Symposium

ASTM International’s Len Morrissey will lead a panel discussion on aligning technical standards on consumer health and safety for the benefit of both manufacturers and consumers.  The panel will discuss both successful and unsuccessful approaches to global standards alignment.

The panel event, part of the International Consumer Product Health and Safety Organization International Symposium, will take place Tuesday, November 15, in Brussels, Belgium.

Sara Gobbi, ASTM International’s Brussels Representative stressed the significance of the event, noting “ASTM International continues to support consumer safety through its standards and through participation in major events like this. The manufacturers and consumer advocacy organizations at the symposium and on the panel reflect the significance of ASTM standards in Europe and around the world.”

Morrissey, director of technical committee operations, will moderate the panel featuring:
•    Nancy Cowles, executive director, Kids in Danger;
•    Jens Ekwall, team manager, laws and standards for furniture and textiles, IKEA of Sweden;
•    Cinzia Missiroli, unit manager, sustainability and services, European Committee for Standardization (CEN) and the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC); and
•    Daryl Scrivens, director, global quality and regulatory compliance, Mattel Europa.
