ASTM International LaQue Memorial Award Goes to John (Jack) S. Snodgrass

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to ASTM International Committee G01 on Corrosion of Metals and to the field of corrosion testing and evaluation, John (Jack) S. Snodgrass has been honored with the Francis L. LaQue Memorial Award. Snodgrass, a resident of Greensburg, Pa., is retired from his senior staff corrosion engineer position in the corrosion group at the Alcoa Technical Center, Pa.

An ASTM International member since 1984 and a former member of its board of directors, Snodgrass is an active member of G01 and its subcommittees. He has been vice chair and chair of the committee and has received the Award of Merit from G01 for his outstanding contributions to and leadership in corrosion testing related to the development of numerous new standards, the revision of others, and for participation in interlaboratory testing programs. Snodgrass has also been recognized with a G01 Certificate of Appreciation.

Before his retirement, Snodgrass focused on mentoring younger staff, corrosion testing for quality assurance, new alloy development, and new applications for aluminum alloys. Snodgrass joined Reynolds Metals Company in 1970 after working for the Florida Power and Light Company. His initial concentration was power plant operation and performance, later moving to supervision of corrosion research and testing. He assumed his most recent position at Alcoa in 2000 following the acquisition of Reynolds by Alcoa.

Snodgrass holds a B.M.E. degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Florida, an M.S. degree in ocean engineering from the University of Miami, and an M.E. degree in metallurgical engineering from the University of Florida.
