ASTM International to Host Workshop on Radiation Processing in the Pharmaceutical Industry

ASTM International is hosting the Radiation Processing for the Pharmaceutical and BioPharmaceutical Industries training workshop, to be held May 8 - 9, 2023, at the Sheraton Denver Downton Hotel (Colorado, USA). The workshop is organized by ASTM committees on manufacture of pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical products (E55) and radiation processing (E61), and will take place in conjunction with the standards development meetings of the committees.

This workshop is powered by the successful ASTM International Workshop on Radiation Processing but is focused on and tailored for the individuals supporting the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industries. It includes lectures, practical hands-on exercises, case study analysis, and roundtable discussions, with emphasis on the application of ASTM and ISO radiation standards in meeting compliance with regulatory expectations.

The objective of this workshop is to enhance the knowledge and understanding of the radiation process and critical requirements needed for the sterilization of components and finished products using radiation technologies. This workshop provides essential information for all radiation processing applications, including components, packaging, polymers, single use systems, medical devices and pharmaceutical products.

The workshop will highlight the following major topics areas during all the plenary and hands-on sessions:

  • Radiation Technologies, primarily focusing on X-ray and Gamma;
  • Equipment/Technology/Conveyance; and
  • Dose Distribution Simulation Capabilities.

A technical program will be posted on the ASTM website by late February 2023. Registration opens approximately 10 weeks before the start of the workshop. The event will be held at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel in Denver, Colorado.

Attendance will be limited to the first 50 participants who register.

Additional information is available from the members of the workshop’s planning committee, Maria Leyva (Maria_Levya@Jabil.com), Denise Cleghorn (Denise.Cleghorn@bsci.com), Samuel Dorey (Samuel.DOREY@SARTORIUS.com), Krystan Polaski (Kyrstan_Polaski@steris.com), John Williams (john.a.williams@medtronic.com).
