ASTM International Honors Tyler Olson with James A. Thomas President’s Leadership Award

Tyler Olson, engineering manager, materials, with the Fastenal Company, Winona, Minnesota, USA, was recently awarded the 2018 ASTM International James A. Thomas President’s Leadership Award. Katharine Morgan, ASTM International president, presented Olson with the award during standards development meetings last week in San Diego, California. 

The President’s Leadership Award recognizes individuals early in their ASTM career who have significantly advanced ASTM’s mission through extraordinary accomplishment, example and vision. The award is given in honor of James A. Thomas, who served as ASTM International president from 1992 to early 2017. It is presented annually to two deserving ASTM International members.  

A member of ASTM International since 2011, Olson was recognized for his productivity and exemplary service to the committee on fasteners (F16). He is also a member of ASTM committees on steel, stainless steel and related alloys (A01) and metallic and inorganic coatings (B08). 

Olson has been with Fastenal Company since 2008, having previously served as an applications engineer before his current position. He holds a bachelor’s degree in materials science and engineering from the University of Minnesota. 

In addition to ASTM International Olson is a member of ASM International and NACE.
