ASTM International Honors Sarah Smit with Top Annual Award

ASTM International presented its top annual award – the 2023 Award of Merit – to Sarah Smit for her contributions to ASTM’s personal protective clothing and equipment committee (F23).

The prestigious award, which includes the accompanying title of fellow, is ASTM’s highest recognition for distinguished service and outstanding participation in ASTM International committee activities. Smit was recognized for the substantial work she’s done in protective clothing, and for her role as a ready and willing leader within the committee after only seven years.

An ASTM International member since 2015, Smit had been previously honored by the committee with the Award of Appreciation (2021).

Smit is currently the director over lab operations at Nelson Labs (Salt Lake City, UT) and has been with the company for 14 years. Her work involves managing routine testing and laboratory analysis, and she has over a decade of experience working with protective barriers. She received her bachelor of science in biology from the University of Utah in 2009, and in 2012 she received the Quality Process Analyst Certification from the American Society for Quality.
