ASTM International Honors Phil Kenul with Newcome Award

ASTM International’s unmanned aircraft committee (F38) has given its Laurence R. “Nuke” Newcome Award to Phil Kenul, Rear Admiral (ret.), United States Navy.

The award was given to Kenul in recognition of his distinguished contributions to advancing UAS integration in civil aviation through his dedication and leadership in the industry.

An ASTM International member since 2011, Kenul currently serves as senior vice president, aviation and operations at Trivector Services. Previously, he served as an officer of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) focused on marine and aviation operations. Within NOAA, he held a wide variety of positions and has been directly involved with unmanned technologies since they were an emerging effort.

Kenul holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from the State University of New York at Corland, and a master’s degree in environmental and civil engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.
