ASTM International Honors Benjamin Markel with Top Annual Award

ASTM International presented its top annual award – the 2024 Award of Merit – to Benjamin Markel for his contributions to ASTM’s refractories committee (C08). 



The prestigious award, which includes the accompanying title of fellow, is ASTM’s highest recognition for distinguished service and outstanding participation in ASTM International committee activities. Markel was recognized for his consistent diligence, the technical expertise he brought to various standards, and his impactful work as chair of subcommittee C08.09 on refractories.

An ASTM International member since 2004, Markel had been previously honored by the committee with the Louis J. Trostel, Jr. Award (2022).

Markel works as the director of research at Resco Products, Inc., a position he has held since 2018 after holding various positions at the company for 20 years. His career focus is refractories and monolithic refractories, and in addition to ASTM, he is a member of the American Ceramics Society (ACS).

Markel earned his bachelor’s degree in ceramic engineering from Penn State University in 1998.
