ASTM International’s committee on homeland security applications (E54) presented its top annual award – the Award of Merit – to Casandra Robinson of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), in Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA. The prestigious award, which includes the accompanying title of fellow, is ASTM’s highest recognition for individual contributions to developing standards. 

Robinson was honored for outstanding contributions and dedicated service in expanding the membership of the committee, leading the development of new standards for law enforcement equipment, mentoring task group leaders, and strengthening partnerships with external organizations.

A member of ASTM International since 2006, Robinson received the Award of Appreciation in 2013 by the committee on homeland security applications (E54). She is also a member of the ASTM committees on textiles (D13), leather (D31), and on pedestrian/walkway safety and footwear (F13), and personal protective clothing and equipment (F23). 

Robinson, a physical scientist – National Institute of Standards and Technology, has held her position since 2012, previously serving at Savannah River National Laboratory. She holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Clemson University and a master’s degree in industrial and systems engineering from University of Alabama – Huntsville.
