ASTM International Gives Hague Award to Mary Ann Worthington

The John L. Hague Award, given to Mary Ann Worthington of Sun City Center, Fla., recognizes her many contributions to ASTM International Committee E01 on Analytical Chemistry for Metals, Ores and Related Materials. The committee cited Worthington for her service as vice chair of the committee and as chair of E01.93 on Long Range Planning and Liaison as well as her work on fire assay standard methods, involvement in the terminology and editorial subcommittee, and her role in producing the E01 Quality Manual.

An ASTM International member since 1979, Worthington is also the member at large for the Executive Subcommittee of Committee B02 on Nonferrous Metals and Alloys

Worthington is a retired chief chemist at Handy & Harman, where she had also been a supervisor; she specialized in plasma spectroscopy and precious metals chemistry while with the firm. She had taught chemistry as a special lecturer at the University of Bridgeport, and previously was a senior technical aid at Bell Telephone Laboratories.

A graduate of the University of Massachusetts with a B.S. in chemistry, Worthington also earned her M.A. in teaching from that institution.
