ASTM International Fastener Committee Gives Weingruber Award to Harry S. Brenner

Harry S. Brenner, P.E., Almay Consultants, Los Angeles, Calif., has been honored with the 2005 Fred F. Weingruber Award by ASTM International Committee F16 on Fasteners. The award recognizes exceptional leadership and sustained service to the committee in the field of fasteners.

An ASTM International member since 1977, Brenner serves on a number of F16 standards development subcommittees. He has been involved with the standardization of fasteners as well as their manufacture, research, and testing since 1945, following his graduation from the University of Minnesota with a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering.

After earning his degree, Brenner became a project engineer for the Bureau of Aeronautics at the Navy Dept. in Washington, D.C., where he initiated the first government contracts to investigate the potential of titanium in the manufacture of structural fasteners. While working in Washington, he earned his master's degree in aerospace engineering from Catholic University.

Following two years as chief engineer with Olympic Screw and Rivet Corp. in Downey, Calif., Brenner established the Almay Research and Testing Corp. to test and research fasteners for the aerospace, nuclear, automotive, construction, and electronic industries. Brenner was president and director of research for the firm until 2003, when he began Almay Consultants.

Outside ASTM International, Brenner is also a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Society for Metals.
