ASTM International EMS Committee Names Paul D. Roman as Chair

Paul D. Roman, executive director of the N.J. EMT Registry in Shrewsbury, N.J., has been reelected chairman of ASTM International Committee F30 on Emergency Medical Services. The committee includes five technical subcommittees responsible for more than 50 standards related to the field.

Roman, who joined ASTM International in 1984, serves on several ASTM International committees in addition to F30, including E34 on Occupational Health and Safety, E54 on Homeland Security Applications, F08 on Sports Equipment, F15 on Consumer Products, F20 on Hazardous Substances and Oil Spill Response, F29 on Anesthetic and Respiratory Equipment and F32 on Search and Rescue.

Outside ASTM International, Roman is president of the N.J. Local Boards of Health Association, the N.J. Fire and Emergency Medical Services Institute, the Shrewsbury Board of Health, and the Monmouth County Regional Health Commission. He is also involved with the Reserve Officers Association of the U.S., and the Shrewsbury First Aid Squad.

In his career Roman has focused on emergency medical services work, including training, education, consultation, writing, sales, marketing, and operations. He holds an associate's degree from Thomas A. Edison College in Trenton, N.J., and is a certified instructor/coordinator of basic EMT training programs for both civilian and military organizations.
