ASTM International Committee on Plastic Piping Systems Honors John Kurdziel

John M. Kurdziel, chief engineer with Advanced Drainage Systems, Inc., Hilliard, Ohio, USA, was honored with the Frank W. Reinhart & Henry “Butch” Kuhlman Award from ASTM International’s committee on plastic piping systems (F17). 

Kurdziel was recognized for faithful and significant contributions in furthering the cause of sound and effective plastic piping standardization.

Kurdziel, an ASTM International member since 1991, has previously been awarded the Merlin G. “Ib” Spangler Award (1999), the Special Service Award (2009 and 2011), the Certificate of Appreciation (2009 and 2017), the Paul Finn Memorial Award (2014), and the organization’s highest award, the Award of Merit (2001). 

Chief engineer with Advanced Drainage Systems, Inc., Kurdziel has previously served with the Press-Seal Gasket Corp., North Star Concrete Corp., the American Concrete Pipe Association, and the U.S. Federal Highway Administration. He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from The Cooper Union. 

In addition to ASTM International, Kurdziel is a member of the Canadian Standards Association, the Transportation Research Board, and the International Standards Organization.
