ASTM International Committee on Metal Powders and Metal Powder Products Honors Dr. W. Brian James

W. Brian James, Ph.D., retired, was honored with the Frank W. Reinhart Award from ASTM International committee on metal powders and metal powder products (B09). 

James joined ASTM in 1986 and was honored for his contributions to the standardization of terminology for the metal powder industry. The award recognizes his leadership and commitment to developing consistent and coherent terms for the committee. James has previously received the Award of Merit, the Distinguished Service Award, and two Awards of Appreciation from the committee. 

James previously served as the manager of international technical service for the Hoeganaes Corporation, product development engineer for GKN Technology, development engineer for Round Oak Steel Works, and others. He holds both a bachelor’s and a doctorate degree in metallurgy from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology.  

In addition to ASTM International, James is a member of the American Powder Metallurgy Institute, the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, the European Powder Metallurgy Association, and the American Society for Metals.
