ASTM International Committee on Air Quality Honors Michael J. Brisson

Michael J. Brisson, technical advisor with the Savannah River National Laboratory, Aiken, South Carolina, USA, was honored with the Moyer D. Thomas Award from ASTM International’s committee on air quality (D22).

Brisson was recognized for his excellence in all levels of committee leadership including six years as chair and for his leadership in many technical areas including beryllium analysis in workplace atmospheres, dermal sampling, and detection limits.

Brisson, an ASTM International member since 2005, has previously been awarded the Award of Appreciation (2013), and the Award of Merit (2017) by the committee. Additionally, Brisson has been awarded the Richard S. Ladd Standards Development Award from the committee on soil and rock (D18), and the Award of Achievement, the Award of Appreciation, and the Harlan J. Anderson Award from the committee on nuclear fuel cycle (C26). 

A fellow technical advisor with the Savannah River National Laboratory, Brisson has previously served with Beecham Products and the state of South Carolina. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the College of Charleston and a master’s degree in Hazardous Waste Management from the National Technological University. 

In addition to ASTM International, Brisson is a member of the American Industrial Hygiene Association and the Project Management Institute.
