Charles J. McDonough, a consultant and principal of CJM Solutions in East Norriton, Pa., has received a 2007 ASTM International Award of Merit and accompanying title of fellow from Committee D19 on Water. The award is the highest ASTM International recognition for individual contributions to standards activities.

The group cited McDonough "For outstanding contributions to ASTM International Committee D19 on Water through standardization of test methods and the management of interlaboratory studies related to power generation and process use, on-line water analysis, and surveillance of water, leadership in the development of membership participation and service in administration of the committee."

An ASTM International member since 1986, McDonough is chair of D19.03 on Sampling Water and Water-Formed Deposits, Analysis of Water for Power Generation and Process Use, On-Line Water Analysis, and Surveillance of Water, and he also serves on the D19 executive and long-range planning subcommittees. McDonough has been active on a number of D19 subcommittees, including Subcommittee D19.08 on Membranes and Ion Exchange Materials, and oversees the maintenance of many D19 standards. For his contributions to the committee, McDonough previously received the Max Hecht Award.

McDonough's career has been focused on the analysis and mechanical and chemical treatment of potable, waste and industrial water. Before opening his own consultancy, McDonough gained industry experience with a number of firms, most recently as a senior consultant for GE Betz in Trevose, Pa. He began his consulting firm in 2003.

A graduate of LaSalle University with a B.S. in chemistry, McDonough is also a member of the American Chemical Society.
