ASTM International Award of Merit Given to Donald L. Deetscreek

Donald L. Deetscreek, director of quality assurance for Johnstown Wire Technologies in Johnstown, Pa. , has been named an ASTM fellow and 2006 winner of the ASTM International Award of Merit. ASTM Committee A05 on Metallic-Coated Iron and Steel Products honored Deetscreek for his contributions to steel wire and wire products standardization in Subcommittee A05.12 on Wire Specifications, as well as his leadership in A05. The Award of Merit is ASTM's highest honor for individual contributions to standards activities.

Deetscreek lives in Ebensburg, Pa.

A major contributor both to new consensus standards and their revisions, Deetscreek is, in addition to Committee A05, a member of Committees A01 on Steel, Stainless Steel, and Related Alloys, B02 on Nonferrous Metals and Alloys, F14 on Fences and F16 on Fasteners.

Outside ASTM International, Deetscreek is a member of ASM International and the Wire Association International. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. in metallurgy and materials engineering.

Deetscreek's expertise lies in quality control and quality assurance for metallic coated and cold heading wire. Before assuming his current position, he served in a number of capacities for Bethlehem Steel Corp. in Johnstown, Pa.
