ASTM International Announces Steven T. Theis as New Chair of Committee on Electrical Protective Equipment for Workers

ASTM International announces that Steven T. Theis, vice president of safety for the MYR Group in Rolling Meadows, Ill., has become chair of Committee F18 on Electrical Protective Equipment for Workers. The F18 committee consists of more than 200 members who maintain close to 40 standards published in the Annual Book of ASTM Standards.

Theis lives in Mullica Hill, N.J.

An ASTM International member since 1989, Theis works on numerous Committee F18 standards development subcommittees as well as ASTM Committee E34 on Occupational Safety and Health and Safety and several E34 groups. Outside ASTM International, Theis is a member of the Academy of Certified Hazardous Materials Managers, the American National Standards Institute, the American Psychological Association, the American Society for Quality, the American Society of Safety Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the National Electric Safety Code, the National Fire Protection Association, the National Safety Council, the National Utility Contractors Association, and the Society for Industrial and Occupational Psychology.

For most of his career in utility construction safety and health, Theis worked for Henkels & McCoy in positions of increasing responsibility. He assumed his current position as vice president of safety for the MYR Group in 1992.

A graduate of the University of Southern California with a B.S. in biology, Theis has a master of science and a master of philosophy in organizational dynamics from the University of Pennsylvania.
