ASTM International presented its top annual award – the 2024 Award of Merit – to Chris Slate for his contributions to ASTM’s concrete and concrete aggregates committee (C09).
The prestigious award, which includes the accompanying title of fellow, is ASTM’s highest recognition for distinguished service and outstanding participation in ASTM International committee activities. Slate was recognized for his guiding presence as a subject matter authority, his equitable and innovative leadership within concrete standards, and his support of new generations of concrete professionals at ASTM.
An ASTM International member since 1996, Slate had been previously honored by the committee as an Honorary Committee Member (2017) and with three Awards of Appreciation (2014, 2018, 2020).
Slate works as technical director at Alamo Concrete Products, a position he has held since 1995. His work’s primary focus is quality control for ready-mixed concrete in Texas, Arizona, and Ohio. Throughout his career, he’s become adept at working through construction challenges and become familiar with concrete aggregates, cement, and more.
In addition to ASTM, Slate is also a member of the American Concrete Institute.
