While there are many commercially available stormwater treatment products currently on the market, there is no universal testing standard that would allow the performance of these products to be accurately compared. A proposed new ASTM International standard will fill this need, providing a testing method for stormwater treatment products that use filtration as a primary treatment process. ASTM…

A new test method is the latest in a series of ASTM International standards being developed to address the protection of exterior portions of structures during fires. The new standard, ASTM E2726/E2726M , Test Method for Evaluating the Fire-Test-Response of Deck Structures to Burning Brands, is being developed by Subcommittee E05.14 on External Fire Exposures , part of ASTM International…

A watertight septic system ensures its integrity, and demonstrating that integrity is important because such systems have over time become more complex, expensive and critical to both system owners and to the environment. A new ASTM International standard fills a need for an in-field installation test for septic systems. The new standard, ASTM C1719 , Test Method for Installed Precast Concrete…, ASTM Committee C27 Next Meeting:, Dec. 6-7, 2011, December Committee Week, Tampa, Fla., Technical Contact:, Michael R. Among the proposed new standards that ASTM Committee E05 on Fire Standards is currently working on are two that cover aspects of fire exposure. Committee E05 is meeting in Atlanta in December and welcomes participation in its standards developing activities., Roof Field Vent Response, Embers from wildfires can travel through the air up to four miles away from the fire source, particularly in areas where wind is often prevalent during fire season. These embers can then enter structures through ventilation systems and other openings in a building envelope, resulting in fires being ignited from within a structure. A proposed new ASTM standard will cover a test for the resistance…, Fire Response, Subcommittee E05.14 is also working on ASTM WK25760 , Guide for Quantification of Fire Exposures. The proposed standard will cover fire exposure metrics that will be used in the development of fire test methods. According to Jon Traw, president, Traw Associates Consulting, and chairman of Task Group E05.14.08, the proposed standard will serve as a critical tool in the development of appropriate…, ASTM Committee E05 Next Meeting:, Dec. 6-9, ASTM Committee Week, Atlanta, Ga., Technical Contacts:, (WK23700) Gregory Daniels, O’Hagin’s Inc., Rohnert Park, Calif., Phone: 707-303-3660; gdaniels@ohaginvent.com ; (WK25760) Jon Traw, Traw Associates Consulting, Whittier, Calif., Phone: 562-789-7583; trawassoc@yahoo.com, ASTM Staff Contact:, Thomas O’Toole, Phone: 610-832-9739; totoole@astm.org, ASTM PR Contact:, Barbara Schindler, Phone: 610-832-9603; bschindl@astm.org Release #8423/Dec2009
