Renamed ASTM International Subcommittee Begins Work on Enteral Feeding Devices Standard

ASTM International Subcommittee F04.35 has recently undergone a name change. Formerly known as F04.35 on GI Endoscopes, the subcommittee, which is under the jurisdiction of Committee F04 on Medical and Surgical Materials and Devices, is now known as Gastroenterolgy (GI). The name change indicates a broadening of the scope of activities for the subcommittee. James Bardwell, Leading Medical Research, will be the new chair of the subcommittee.

Subcommittee F04.35 has begun work on a proposed new standard, Test Method for Enteral Feeding Devices with a Retention Balloon. The proposed standard establishes performance requirements for the utilization of a single-use, balloon-retention device used by medical professionals for providing a means of nutrition and/or administration of medication to patients by means of natural orifice (nasal, oral, transluminal, anal) and/or a surgically-created stoma. All interested parties are invited to participate in the development of this proposed new standard.
