Proposed Standard Will Update Requirements for PVDF Materials

ASTM International’s plastics committee (D20) is developing a proposed standard that will provide updated and accurate requirements and test methods for products manufactured from polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), a specialty plastic.

The proposed standard (WK71564) covers material, dimensions, workmanship, and properties for extruded materials such as sheet, rod, and tubular bar, used in plastic fabrications intended for elevated temperature chemical applications, biotechnology, sunlight exposure, and flame-retardant structures.

Original equipment manufacturers such as tank/vessel and valve fabricators, pump manufacturers, and engineering design companies will be able to use the proposed standard to ensure appropriate workmanship in their product designs.

ASTM welcomes participation in the development of its standards. Representatives of rod and sheet suppliers, plastic manufacturing facility companies, and engineering design companies are particularly encouraged to join in the development of this proposed standard.  Become a member at www.astm.org/JOIN. The next meeting of ASTM International’s plastics committee is March 29 - April 1 in Boston (Massachusetts, USA).
