A proposed ASTM International standard aims to provide minimum requirements for conducting compliance audits and self-inspections in the cannabis industry. ASTM International’s cannabis committee (D37) is developing the standard (WK67367).   

“The development of an effective self-examination program will be fundamental for a robust cannabis quality management system,” said ASTM International member Maribel Colón, director of quality and regulatory compliance at VEQTOR. “The proposed guide will provide the basis for an internal or external entity to develop and conduct an audit program focused on the cannabis industry.” 

Colón says that the standard will be suitable for all sizes and types of cannabis industry organizations that seek to establish a strong quality management system. 

“By following the proposed standard, organizations will achieve a system that will help to improve the levels of customer satisfaction and management of processes throughout the supply chain to compete locally and globally,” noted Colón.
