Wes Balentine Honored by ASTM International Carbon Black Committee

Wes Balentine, former manager of manufacturing then national accounts manager at J.M. Huber Corporation and founder of Balentine Enterprises Inc., Borger, Texas, USA, was honored with the Jeff Melsom Distinguished Service Award by ASTM International’s carbon black committee (D24). 

An ASTM International member since 1960, Balentine was honored for 23 years of outstanding dedication and contributions to the committee on carbon black in developing and advancing the technical quality of carbon black standards.

ASTM International Announces Proficiency Testing Program for Biodiesel Blend

Today, ASTM International announced a new proficiency testing program for biodiesel blend. Proficiency testing programs allow labs to compare their performance with others, ultimately helping all participants improve their performance.

The program provides laboratories with a statistical quality assurance tool, enabling them to compare, improve, and maintain, a high level of performance in the use of ASTM International methods with other labs worldwide. Many labs also use the program to help gain lab accreditation.

ASTM International Launches Collaboration Platform for Document Development (SpecBuilder)

Today, ASTM International launched the ASTM SpecBuilder platform which empowers organizations to streamline collaboration and document development for internal documents such as specifications, test methods, guidelines, and procedures.

In an effort to refine the platform, the Plastics Pipe Institute (PPI) and others have tested SpecBuilder over the past year.

ASTM International to Hold Aviation Fuels Training and Meeting in Lima

Today, ASTM International announced that it will hold a popular two-day training course on aviation fuels at EnginZone in Lima, Peru, on April 23-24. The course, Aviation Fuels: Specifications and Test Methods, focuses on how technical standards help control the quality of aviation fuels and why they affect product performance and availability.

Certification Program Attracting Interest in Advance of Deadline for Women’s Lacrosse Equipment

The Safety Equipment Institute (SEI) certification program with US Lacrosse is now fully operational and has issued its first certifications. The program, which applies to women’s headgear and goggles requires headgear equipment made after January 1, 2018, to be SEI-certified. 

The women’s eyewear certification portion is also operational with a later certification deadline date.
