Participation Sought for New ASTM Radio Frequency Identification Task Group

Committee F10 on Livestock, Meat, and Poultry Evaluation Systems invites all interested parties to join in the standards developing activities of a new task group on radio frequency identification (RFID). The new task group, which is under the jurisdiction of Subcommittee F10.20 on Device Performance Criteria, will have its first meeting Nov. 1 at the November Committee Week in Tampa, Fla.

The RFID task group is the result of a recent committee survey that identified the need for the development of performance standards for the use of RFID in animal identification. The activity could be expanded to include other animal ID technology as well. A primary objective of this task group, which is being chaired by Mark Nelson, Kansas Farm Bureau, will be to determine the need for standards in the area of tag and reader performance.
