Papers Invited for ASTM International’s Third Symposium on Respirable Crystalline Silica

Papers are invited for ASTM International’s Third Symposium on Respirable Crystalline Silica and Other Minerals and Metals, to be held Oct. 10-11, 2024, in Orlando, FL. The event is sponsored by ASTM International’s air quality committee (D22) and will be held in conjunction with the committee’s standards development meetings.

This Symposium builds on the work presented at the first and second ASTM Silica Symposia held in 2004 and 2012 and provides an update on progress towards accurately assessing respirable crystalline silica (RCS) exposures for compliance with limit values and beyond compliance for improved worker protection. The symposium could be of value to regulators and bodies which set guidance for RCS and other respirable dust exposures, managers and technicians of laboratories engaged in analysis, and other related professionals.

Symposium paper topics of all aspects of sampling and analysis of airborne respirable mineral and metal dusts generally or RCS specifically are invited and may include:

  • Development, implementation, quality assurance, and validation of existing or novel samplers,
  • Real-time and end-of-shift exposure assessment systems,
  • Sample preparation procedures,
  • Analytical methods, and
  • Exposure management systems.

To participate in the symposium, authors must submit a 2 to 3-page abstract using the ASTM Extended Abstracts template found in the online Abstract Submission Portal no later than Dec. 15, 2023. To ensure your abstract was received, please email symposia@astm.org and let us know that you have submitted an abstract.

Additional information is available from technical cochairs, Martin Harper (mhasbestosman@gmail.com); and Emanuele Cauda (ecauda@cdc.gov).
