Pamela M. Shinkoda Joins ASTM International Board of Directors

Pamela M. Shinkoda, P.Eng., research associate, fire acoustic, building systems for CGC Inc. (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada) will serve a three-year term on the ASTM International board of directors. 

CGC Inc. is a leading marketer, manufacturer, and distributor of gypsum board products, interior finishing materials, and suspended acoustical ceilings in Canada. The parent company of CGC Inc. is USG Corporation, a part of the Knauf group, the world’s largest gypsum manufacturer. 

In her career, Shinkoda has held positions of technical manager at CertainTeed Gypsum and ROCKWOOL, and acting section manager, building products, at ORTECH Corp. She has been involved with testing, standards, building codes, and finding solutions relating to construction of the built environment throughout her career.

Shinkoda, who became an ASTM International member in 1998, is past chair of the committee on gypsum and related building materials and systems (C11), and she works on several C11 task groups. She is also a member of the committees on fiber-reinforced cement products (C17), fire standards (E05), and building and environmental acoustics (E33) Her contributions to C11 have been honored with the Award of Merit in 2020, the Award of Appreciation in 2019, the Outgoing Chair Award in 2019, the Special Service Award in 2012, and the Award of Appreciation in 2005.

Shinkoda holds a bachelor’s degree in building engineering from Concordia University. Shinkoda is involved in a wide range of codes and standards development activities, including the Standards Council of Canada’s mirror fire safety committee (TC 92) in the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the ULC fire tests committee. She has also been appointed to the Canada standing committee on fire protection in Canada. Shinkoda serves as a representative on the Gypsum Association’s Building Code and Technical Committee, and she is a member of the Ontario Building Officials Association (OBOA), Construction Specifications Canada (CSC), and the Canadian Fire Safety Association (CFSA).
