Nondestructive Testing Committee in ASTM International Begins Work on Digital Detector Array Guide

ASTM International Committee E07 on Nondestructive Testing has initiated work on a proposed new Guide for Digital Detector Array Selection. Information on the proposed guide, which is under the jurisdiction of Subcommittee E07.01 on Radiology (X and Gamma) Method, can be found by entering "WK7492" in the site search box on the home page of ASTM International’s Web site (www.astm.org).

The scope of the proposed guide is to help perspective purchasers of digital detector arrays to have an informed understanding of the tradeoffs in systems for various applications. According to E07 member Cliff Bueno, some of the key elements of the proposed guide will be:

o A description of digital detector arrays for X-ray imaging, including explanations of design, size and rate of data acquisition for various arrays;

o Definitions of properties that define the performance of detectors, such as X-ray absorption and spatial resolution;

o Common requirements such as gain and offset corrections; and

o Notes on radiation damage.

All interested parties are invited to participate in the development of WK7492.
