ASTM International’s committee on concrete and concrete aggregates (C09) presented its 2022 Frank E. Richart Award to Lawrence Sutter, professor emeritus and professor of research in materials science and engineering at Michigan Technological University.

This award is conferred in recognition of meritorious contributions to research and standardization with concrete and aggregates. Sutter was recognized for his leadership in developing standards related to supplementary cementitious materials. In addition to his work at ASTM, he has 40 years of experience in concrete materials characterization and testing, and concrete pavement durability.

A long-time ASTM International member, Sutter had been previously honored by the committee with four Awards of Appreciation (2013, 2016, and two in 2018) and the Award of Merit (2019).
