ASTM International’s adhesives committee (D14) has approved a new standard that will serve as a guideline for developing adhesive systems used in the installation of resilient flooring.

The new standard (D8397) establishes minimum requirements for adhesives used for installing resilient floor covering, within a climate-controlled structure, when adhered directly and permanently to a structurally sound and recommended substrate. The standard provides the means to determine adhesive bonding as a result of different resilient flooring backing systems used with PVC and rubber flooring materials.

According to ASTM member Kelly Pitts, the new standard can be used both for developing new systems and as a reference for current in-service adhesives.
