ASTM International Honors Walter Rossiter with Werner H. Gumpertz Award

ASTM International’s roofing and waterproofing committee (D08) has awarded Walter Rossiter with the Werner H. Gumpertz Award. This eminent award is conferred for significant professional contributions to the field of building technology and multidisciplinary technical problem-solving in the construction industry. 

Rossiter was recognized for his continued and dedicated service to the field of building enclosures, his depth of technical expertise and leadership, and his prolific work as a researcher.

An ASTM International member since 1977, Rossiter had been previously honored by the committee with numerous awards, including the Award of Merit (D08), the Walter C. Voss Award (D08), the William C. Cullen Award (D08), a Distinguished Service Award (E54), two S03 Community on Publications Awards of Excellence, and three Awards of Appreciation (D08, E60).

Although Rossiter is now retired, the highlights of his later career included his work as a research chemist at the NIST Center for Building Technology and as the director of technical services at the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants. His other professional memberships include CIB/RILEM and the American Chemical Society. He received his bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Boston College in 1964 and his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from University of California, Santa Barbara in 1968.
