ASTM International Honors Paul D. Tennis with Top Annual Award

ASTM International presented its top annual award – the Award of Merit – to Paul D. Tennis for his contributions to ASTM’s cement committee (C01).

The prestigious award, which includes the accompanying title of fellow, is ASTM’s highest recognition for distinguished service and outstanding participation in ASTM International committee activities. Tennis was recognized for well over two decades of participation in C01, five of which were spent as its chair (2012-2017). Beyond his organizational abilities, his technical expertise has overseen over fifty work items, and great strides in sustainable standards for cement products.

An ASTM International member since 1996, Tennis had been previously honored by the committee with the Bryant Mather Award (2009), the COS Service Award (2009), an Award of Appreciation (2012) and the Outgoing Chair Award (2017).

Tennis works as the senior director of research and product standards at the Portland Cement Association, a position he has held since 2020, through which he is deeply involved with research and technology efforts within the cement industry. Tennis holds a bachelor of science degree from Clemson University, a master of science in materials science, and a Ph.D in civil and environmental engineering from Northwestern University. His other professional organizations include the American Concrete Institute, Transportation Research Board, and AASHTO Committee on Materials and Pavements.
