Global standards organization ASTM International and the Korea Institute of Aviation Safety Technology (KIAST) have signed a memorandum of cooperation (MoC) aimed at supporting global unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and urban air mobility (UAM).

The MoC was signed by Kathie Morgan, ASTM International president, and LEE Dae Sung, KIAST president.

“We are excited to sign this agreement with KIAST to promote the continued development of UAS and UAM standards for safer skies and we look forward to expanded participation among Korean stakeholders,” notes Morgan.

Objectives of the MoU include:

• Promote communication between the two organizations;
• Promote knowledge of ASTM UAS and UAM related standards among KIAST stakeholders;
• Meet global market needs by encouraging active Korean expert participation in the development of UAS and UAM standards; and
• Pursue safe and reliable UAS and UAM technologies through awareness and education activities including workshops, training events, and conferences.

“I am more than confident that this agreement between ASTM International and KIAST will be a stepping stone to go one step further toward consolidated cooperation that will bring mutual benefits to both parties in contributing to the safer future sky,” notes  Lee.
