Thomas S. Liotta Recognized with ASTM International Committee D11 Distinguished Service Award

Thomas S. Liotta, a consultant based in Charlotte, N.C., has been honored with a Committee D11 Distinguished Service Award. The committee cited Liotta "for over 35 years of dedicated and distinguished service to Committee D11 in the development and maintenance of international standards for the rubber industry and for outstanding leadership as chairman of Committee D11."

An ASTM International member since 1967, Liotta serves on many D11 subcommittees as well as chairman of the main committee, which has some 320 members. In addition, he is a member of ASTM Committees D13 on Textiles and D24 on Carbon Black.

Liotta's career concentration has been in materials evaluation and evaluating dynamic characteristics of tires. For the former, he has focused on the physical and chemical analysis of raw materials, rubber compounds, tire reinforcement materials, and rubber composites. For the latter, he has been involved in indoor evaluation of tire uniformity and handling characteristics and outdoor ride and handling evaluation of tires.

Before becoming a consultant, Liotta was manager of Charlotte operations for the Global Evaluation Dept. of Continental Tire, North America. He had previously been manager of Materials Evaluation for Continental General Tire, and manager of the Materials Testing Laboratories for General Tire and Rubber Co. Liotta holds a B.S. in chemistry from Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio.
