New ASTM International Standard Promotes Table Saw Safety

A new ASTM International standard covering table saw safety has been developed by ASTM’s occupational health and safety committee (E34).

The standard, soon to be published as E3280, addresses a gap in U.S. standards, which address design safety of table saws but don’t directly address the end users. The new standard guide includes topics beyond design-related safety, including installation, setup, operation, and maintenance.

“The standard provides information promoting the safe use of table saws, based on recommended practices in the United States,” says ASTM International member Joseph Harding. “The standard is intended to be used by table saw operators as well as employers who use table saws in their operations.”
