ASTM International Honors Kathleen Baxter with Top Annual Award

ASTM International presented its top annual award – the Award of Merit – to Kathleen Baxter for her contributions to ASTM’s committee on pesticides, antimicrobials, and alternative control agents (E35).

The prestigious award, which includes the accompanying title of fellow, is ASTM’s highest recognition for distinguished service and outstanding participation in ASTM International committee activities. Baxter was recognized for her exceptional leadership, adaptability in the face of adversity, and willingness to foster the development of the committee’s younger scientists through support and mentorship.

Baxter has been a member of ASTM International since 2000 serving as both co-chair (2002-2016) and chair (as of 2016) of sub-committee E35.15 on antimicrobial and antiviral agents, and has worked in a wide variety of consumer, clinical and industrial microbiology areas. After retiring, she has worked as a self-employed consultant in microbiology, quality assurance, and clinical research since 2016. She received her bachelor of science degree in biology from the University of Dayton in 1968, and in the ensuing years she continued her education in microbiology and environmental engineering at the University of Cincinnati.
