ASTM International Honors George Totten with Lowrie B. Sargent Jr. Award

ASTM International’s committee on petroleum products, liquid fuels and lubricants (D02) presented the 2022 Lowrie B. Sargent Jr. Award to George Totten for outstanding leadership in the work of the committee.

Totten is retired but has most recently worked as a research professor at Portland State University, visiting professor at University of Sao Paulo and adjunct professor at Texas A&M University. In addition, he is president of G.E. Totten and Associates, LLC. A majority of his career has been in metal quenchants, heat treatment and surface engineering, hydraulic fluid technology, and basic research of lubrication.

A member of ASTM since the 1990s, Totten has previously been awarded by the committee with the D02 Scroll of Achievement (2004), the Award of Merit (2006) and the Dudley Award (2008).

Totten’s other professional memberships include ASM International, SAE International, the American Chemical Society (ACS), the Brazilian Association of Metallurgy and Materials (ABM), the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), and the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE).
