New Steelmaking e-Learning Course from ASTM International, Codes and Standards Training Institute (CASTI)

Today, ASTM International, in partnership with the Codes and Standards Training Institute (CASTI), launched an online Introduction to Steelmaking course. The course focuses on the use of ASTM International’s world-renowned steel standards, which are included in the cost.

Specifically, participants will learn to:

  • Write better steel specifications and purchase orders,
  • Perform better inspection on steel products,
  • Become more competent in accepting or rejecting steel products,
  • Better understand steelmaking by practicing with ASTM International steel standards, and more.

By the end of the course, participants will understand the basics of steelmaking by practicing with 11 selected ASTM and American Petroleum Institute (API) steel standards.

This e-learning course is comprised of:

  • 28 Connecting-the-Standards examples that demonstrate how to use steel standards,
  • 28 photos and diagrams that explain steelmaking and standard requirements,
  • 9 videos that show steelmaking processes and practices,
  • 23 knowledge checks, including 18 interactive skill tests, and
  • A final assessment quiz.

ASTM International is recognized by the International Association of Continuing Education and Training (IACET) as an Authorized Provider of Continuing Education Units (CEUs). This e-learning course offers 0.1 CEUs.

ASTM International announced the partnership with CASTI in 2017. The ASTM-CASTI e-Learning Series allows learners to study at their own pace on any device, with easy, step-by-step explanations of codes and standards. CASTI’s role in the partnership is to provide training content and subject matter expertise through its 29 years of experience training people worldwide on codes and standards for a number of industries.
