New ASTM International Standard Released for Concrete Expansion Joint Filler

ASTM International has published a standard for a new material used as an expansion joint filler for sidewalks, driveways, curbs, gutter, parking areas, roadways, and other concrete construction.

The new standard (D8139) was developed by the ASTM International committee on road and paving materials (D04).

According to ASTM International member Larry Weimer of NOMACO, Inc., the specification is for semi-rigid, closed-cell polypropylene foam that has suitable compressibility, recovery from compression, nonextruding, and weather-resistant characteristics.

Weimer says that U.S. state departments of transportation could reference the standard and related test methods, and architects and civil engineering firms could use the specification for project requirements.
