ASTM International’s committee on plastic piping systems (F17) presented its top annual award – the Award of Merit – to Mark A. Clark, consultant, in Elkhart, Indiana, USA. The prestigious award, which includes the accompanying title of fellow, is ASTM’s highest recognition for individual contributions to developing standards. 

The committee honored Clark for outstanding dedication, exceptional professionalism, sound technical expertise, meritorious long-term service and leadership in the development of nationally recognized standards that enhance the performance, reliability, and safety of plastic piping systems. 

Clark has been an ASTM International member since 1997. He is also or has been, a member of the committees on copper and copper alloys (B05) and additive manufacturing technologies (F42). Clark has previously been honored with the award of appreciation (2007) and the Arthur Cohen Distinguished Service Award (2018) from committee B05, the Special Service Award (2008), the Paul Finn Memorial Award (2010), and the Ayres-Wilging Award for Professionalism (2017) from committee F17), and the Service Award from the committee on standards. 

Clark has held his current role since 2017, having previously held positions with Mueller Copper Fittings, NIBCO, Inc., and Clark Equipment Company. He holds an associate degree in applied science and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, both from Tri-State University. 

In addition to ASTM International, Clark is also, or has been, a member of the Plastic Pipe Institute, NSF International – committee on plastic piping systems, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Plastic Pipe and Fittings Association, Manufacturers Standardization Society of the Valve and Fittings Industries, and the CSA Group – committees on plastic piping.
