Key ASTM International Committee Honors Dr. Garry T. Yamashita with Award of Excellence

ASTM International’s plastics committee (D20) presented the Robert MacFarlane Award of Excellence to Dr. Garry T. Yamashita. 

Yamashita was honored for his sustained participation, valued leadership, and exemplary technical contributions to the committee.

An ASTM International member since 2005, Yamashita has previously been recognized by the committee with the Award of Appreciation (2010), Award of Recognition (2012), and Award of Achievement (2015).

Before his retirement in 2020, Yamashita served as research scientist at NOVA Chemicals Corporation. His career concentrated on analytical chemistry of polymers and plastics and the chemical analysis of petrochemicals. Yamashita’s areas of expertise included nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and X-ray fluorescence spectrometry.

Yamashita holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Manitoba and a doctorate degree in analytical chemistry from the University of Alberta. In addition to ASTM International, he is also a member of the Chemical Institute of Canada.
