Key ASTM International Committee’s Top Annual Award Presented to Bill Griese

Yesterday, at ASTM International’s meeting of the board of directors, chairman of the board Dale Bohn presented the committee on ceramic whitewares and related products (C21) top annual award – the Award of Merit – to Bill Griese of the Tile Council of North America, in Anderson, South Carolina, USA. The prestigious award, which includes the accompanying title of fellow, is ASTM’s highest recognition for individual contributions to developing standards. 

Griese was honored for outstanding contributions and leadership in the ceramic whitewares and related products committee. The committee will additionally recognize Griese for his award next month at Coverings, the largest tile and stone exhibition in North America.

Griese, an ASTM International member since 2007, was elected to the ASTM International board of directors in January. He is also a member of the committees on manufactured masonry units (C15), and sustainability (E60). Griese was previously awarded the James A. Thomas President’s Leadership Award in 2013. He is also the recipient of Service Awards in 2014 and 2017 for his contributions as a member and chairman of COTCO.  

Griese serves as the director of standards development and sustainability with the Tile Council of North America, having previously served as the manager of standards development and a laboratory engineer before assuming his current position. He holds a bachelor’s degree in ceramic and materials engineering from Clemson University.
