ASTM International Welcomes European Commission Recommendation on PPE Standards Suggested by World Health Organization

As part of an effort to address the shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) in Europe, the European Commission recently announced it will allow products into the European market that meet certain international standards and requirements recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), including ASTM International standards for medical gloves and masks. 

Exo Technology Center of Excellence Launches Research to Standards Funding Round Totaling $102K

ASTM International, a global leader in standards and emerging technologies, announced today a “Request for Proposals” (RFP) to support the Research to Standards core activity for the organization’s Exo Technology Center of Excellence. The center anticipates providing three awards up to $34,000 each, totaling $102,000.

ASTM International Provides Public Access to Standards Used For COVID-19

Global standards organization ASTM International is providing no-cost public access to a suite of two dozen important standards used in the production and testing of personal protective equipment to combat the COVID-19 (coronavirus) public health emergency.

In an effort to support manufacturers, testing labs, healthcare professionals, and the general public, the available standards cover personal protective equipment including face masks, medical gowns, gloves, and hand sanitizers.  

Underwriters Laboratories and ASTM International Sign First International Collaboration Agreement

Underwriters Laboratories and ASTM International have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to establish a framework for cooperation on developing an international, dual-logo ISO and ASTM standard. The agreement is the first of its kind between the two standards development organizations. 

ASTM International to Host Large Standards Meeting in Prague

ASTM International will host a major meeting of four of its technical standards committees at the Prague Marriott Hotel in the Czech Republic, April 27-30. The event will also feature a workshop and a symposium.

ASTM International’s United Arab Emirates Chapter and the organization’s Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence are hosting a workshop on Reshaping the Building and Construction Landscape with Additive Manufacturing on April 14 in Dubai. 

This workshop will address emerging trends related to how 3D printing is used in construction with an emphasis on standardization needs.

Dalia Yarom Joins ASTM International Board of Directors

Dalia Yarom, director of the standardization division at the Standards Institution of Israel (SII), in Tel Aviv, Israel, will serve a three-year term on the ASTM International board of directors. 

SII is a non-governmental organization and the country’s official body for preparing and publishing Israeli standards. SII also focuses on product quality and provides testing, certification, and training. 

Casandra Robinson Joins ASTM International Board of Directors

Casandra W. Robinson, physical scientist in the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Standards Coordination Office (Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA), will serve a three-year term on the ASTM International board of directors.
