Instituto Ecuatoriano de Normalización Adopts ASTM International Standards


The Instituto Ecuatoriano de Normalización (INEN) and ASTM International continue to see the benefits of a memorandum of understanding signed by the organizations in 2002.

Established in 1970, the Instituto Ecuatoriano de Normalización, which is attached to the Ministry of Foreign Trade, Industrial Development and Fishery, is the official body in charge of all standardization activities in Ecuador.  It promotes certification and also conducts metrological activities, weights and measures control and consumer protection.

Conshohocken Library, Conshohocken Catholic School CYO Benefit from ASTM International Donations

The Conshohocken Free Library recently received a donation of $3,000 from ASTM International. These funds were used to further enhance the library’s collection of materials for middle school and high school students, as well as for shelving units for collections of serial books in the children’s section. ASTM International has been a major supporter of the Conshohocken Free Library, having donated computers, reference works and other materials in recent years.

ASTM International Board of Directors to Hold April Meeting in Washington, D.C.

Washington, D.C., will be the location of the 2009 spring meeting of the ASTM International board of directors. The ASTM board meetings, as well as outreach events, will take place in the U.S. capital during the week of April 26.

National Standards Body of Trinidad and Tobago Consults ASTM International Standards

The 2008 Annual Report submitted to ASTM International by the Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards (TTBS) indicates that the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed by the organizations in 2002 continues to be a success.

Established in 1974, the Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards is a corporate body operating under of the Ministry of Trade and Industry and is responsible for the quality of goods and services that are subject to trade in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

ASTM International Standards Referenced in St. Vincent and the Grenadines

The memorandum of understanding signed by ASTM International and the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Bureau of Standards (SVGBS) in 2007 continues to be a success, according to the 2008 Annual Report submitted to ASTM by SVGBS.

The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Bureau of Standards was established by the Standards Act to function as a corporate body, and is presently operating under the Ministry of Telecommunications, Science and Technology, and Industry.

ASTM International Appoints a Technical Services Consultant in India

Technical advisor Mr. Jayakumar Gopalakrishnan will serve as an ASTM International consultant in India to promote and enhance the awareness and use of ASTM International standards and related products and services relevant to the textile and personal protective equipment industries. 

ASTM International Standards Used in Vietnamese Industry


ASTM International standards continue to play an important role in the development of Vietnamese national standards, according to the annual report submitted to ASTM International by the Directorate for Standards and Quality (STAMEQ), the national standards body of Vietnam under the Ministry of Science and Technology.  ASTM International and STAMEQ signed a memorandum of understanding in 2004.

Nominations Being Sought for 2009 ASTM International Cavanaugh Memorial Award

ASTM International, one of the world’s largest standards developing organizations, is seeking nominations for the William T. Cavanaugh Memorial Award.  This annual award is granted to a person of widely recognized eminence in the standards system who has made extraordinary contributions to the field of national and international voluntary standards.
