Additive Manufacturing Experts and Leaders Attend Major ASTM International Conference

Last week, hundreds of industry leaders and experts from around the world attended the International Conference on Additive Manufacturing (ICAM 2020). Held virtually Nov. 16–20, the conference was sponsored by the ASTM International Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM CoE) and a dozen of ASTM technical committees.

Nearly 600 attendees from more than 30 countries took part in ICAM 2020, making it the largest virtual scientific conference for the organization. 

Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence and NASA Establish Cooperative Agreement

Today, ASTM International’s Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM CoE) announced the establishment of a cooperative agreement with the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to support activities of common interest.

The three-year contract, worth up to $750,000, will serve as the basis to expand the AM CoE and NASA’s evolving partnership. 

ASTM International Cancels All In-Person Standards Meetings Through February 2021

In light of COVID-19 and ongoing safety concerns for members and staff, ASTM International announced today that all scheduled in-person January and February 2021 standards development meetings (including independent meetings) have been canceled. 

In July, ASTM International announced the cancellation of all in-person meetings for the remainder of 2020.

These decisions are based on several factors, including, but not limited to:

ASTM International Signs Memorandum of Understanding with ASD-STAN

Last week representatives from global standards organization ASTM International and European standards organization ASD-STAN signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU will support a closer working relationship between ASTM and ASD-STAN on Direct Remote Identification (also known as Remote ID) for UAS (drones). 

The MoU was signed by Jeff Grove, ASTM International vice president of global policy and communications, and Pari Aliyeva, ASD-STAN director.

ASTM International Exo Technology Center of Excellence to Host Virtual Panel Discussion on PPE

The ASTM International Exo Technology Center of Excellence (ET CoE) is hosting a virtual panel discussion on Exoskeletons: Considerations When Deciding to Use Them as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), November 19, 2020, to be held virtually. 

The program includes remarks from Bill Billotte, Ph.D., ASTM International’s director of global exo technology programs, Pat Picariello, ASTM director of developmental operations, and Nora Nimmerichter, staff manager for the ASTM International exoskeletons and exosuits committee (F48).

ASTM International Announces New SEI Cannabis Certification Program, Hemp Proficiency Testing Program

The Safety Equipment Institute (SEI), in cooperation with ASTM International’s cannabis committee (D37), has launched a quality system and facility certification for cannabis and hemp producers. ASTM International has also announced the creation of a new proficiency testing program for water activity in whole hemp flower. 

Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence Announces Call for Projects

Today, ASTM International’s Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM CoE) announced a new Call for Projects (CFP) that will allow non-AM CoE partners to participate in a Research to Standardization initiative to further accelerate standards development for additive manufacturing (AM). 

ASTM International and Libyan National Standards Body Sign Memorandum of Understanding

Representatives from global standards organization ASTM International and the Libyan National Centre for Standardization and Metrology (LNCSM) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement will foster a closer working relationship between the two standards organizations.

ASTM International Launches First Student Chapter at Florida International University

Global standards leader ASTM International launched the organization’s first student chapter at Florida International University (FIU) during a virtual ceremony on Friday. The FIU chapter will include a scholarship program, project grants, awards, and research and publication opportunities. 
 

ASTM International Supports Eight New Research to Standards Projects for Additive Manufacturing

Today, global standards developer ASTM International announced it’s third round of funding to support research that helps expedite standards in additive manufacturing (AM). This investment which includes additional in-kind contributions will support the ASTM International Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM CoE) goal of aligning technical standardization with the rapidly evolving AM industry.
