Brian P. Shiels Joins ASTM International Board of Directors

Brian P. Shiels, senior PPE engineer for ArcWear (Louisville, Kentucky, USA), will serve a three-year term on the ASTM International board of directors. 

ArcWear offers arc, flame, and thermal testing and certification.

Shiels has served in his current role since 2019, having previously held positions at PBI Performance Products before joining ArcWear in 2018.  

ASTM International Cancels April In-Person Standards Meetings

In light of COVID-19 (coronavirus) and ongoing safety concerns for members and staff, ASTM International announced today that all previously scheduled in-person April standards development meetings (including independent meetings) have been canceled.

Julia Schimmelpenningh Joins ASTM International Board of Directors

Julia Schimmelpenningh, architectural applications technical manager for Eastman Chemical Company (Springfield, Massachusetts, USA), will serve a three-year term on the ASTM International board of directors. 

Eastman Chemical Company is a global specialty material and chemical company.

Before joining Eastman Chemical Company in 1988, Schimmelpenningh held positions at Solutia Inc. and Monsanto Chemical Company. 

Elise Owen Joins ASTM International Board of Directors

Elise Owen, standards executive for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) (Washington, D.C., USA), will serve a three-year term on the ASTM International board of directors. 

The EPA is a federal government agency whose mission is to protect human health and the environment.

Christopher R. Reid Joins ASTM International Board of Directors

Christopher R. Reid, associate technical fellow in human factors and ergonomics for Boeing’s Environment, Health, and Safety organization (North Charleston, South Carolina, USA), will serve a three-year term on the ASTM International board of directors.

This organization in the aerospace corporation focuses on corporate strategy in health, safety, and environmental areas, including standards. 

Linda Freeman Joins ASTM International Board of Directors

Linda Freeman, industry manager, entertainment/amusement for Rockwell Automation (Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA), will serve a three-year term on the ASTM International board of directors.  

Rockwell Automation is a global provider of industrial automation and information technology products and services.  

John R. Logar Begins Term as ASTM International Board Chair

John R. Logar, senior director of aseptic processing and terminal sterilization at Johnson & Johnson Microbiological Quality and Sterility Assurance in Raritan, New Jersey (USA), has started his term as the 2021 chair of the ASTM International board of directors.  

ASTM International’s board is made of 25 leaders from a variety of companies, associations, universities, government bodies, and other organizations around the world.

ASTM International Awards $2,500 in Grants to University Students for Standards Projects

ASTM International announced five $500 grants for university students to help with senior or graduate design projects that contain an ASTM International standards component. 

“These grants allow ASTM International to support students who are directly engaging with our standards in real-world scenarios as they work on capstone projects,” said Travis Murdock, academic outreach coordinator. “The goals of these innovative projects, from accessibility-focused technology to helmet safety, support what we strive to do every day, help the world work better.”

ASTM International and Auburn University Receive America Makes Award To Develop AM Cybersecurity Training

ASTM International and Auburn University were awarded more than $260,000 in funding from America Makes for the development of additive manufacturing (AM) cybersecurity training.

Safety Equipment Institute to Manage RIMA International Verification Program

Today, the Safety Equipment Institute (SEI), an affiliate of ASTM International, announced plans to manage the Reflective Insulation Manufacturers Association International’s (RIMA International) Voluntary Product Verification Program.
