ASTM International Shifts January Committee Week Meeting in Houston to Virtual Format
In light of COVID-19 (coronavirus) and ongoing safety concerns for members and staff, ASTM International announced today that the January in-person standards development meetings in Houston, Texas, USA, are now transitioning to all virtual.
These decisions were based on several factors, including, but not limited to:
Cesar A. Constantino Begins Term as ASTM International Board Chair
Cesar A. Constantino, Ph.D., director of business development for Separation Technologies LLC, a Titan America business in Deerfield Beach, Florida (USA) has started his term as the 2022 chair of the ASTM International board of directors.
ASTM International’s board is made of 25 leaders from a variety of companies, associations, universities, government bodies, and other organizations around the world.
ASTM International Exo Technology Center of Excellence Debuts Inaugural Annual Report
Today the ASTM International Exo Technology Center of Excellence (ET CoE) debuted its inaugural annual report which highlights the organization’s vision, team, partnerships, acceleration projects, accomplishments, and key metrics.
ASTM International Releases Technical Paper on Delta-8-THC in Cannabis Products
Today, global standards organization ASTM International released a technical white paper titled “Delta-8-Tetrahydrocannabinol and the Need to Develop Standards to Protect Safety of Consumers.” This free technical paper identifies the current landscape of hemp-based products that contain the psychotropic cannabinoid, delta-8-THC, which is derived from the non-psychotropic cannabinoid cannabidiol (CBD). The United States Pharmacopeia (USP), working in tandem with ASTM International, also debuted a technical white paper on delta-8-THC.
ASTM International and NASA to Hold Workshop on In-Situ Monitoring for Additive Manufacturing
The ASTM International Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM CoE) will hold its second Specialty Workshop Series on In-Situ Technology Readiness for Applications in AM Qualification and Certification, Jan. 26, 2022, in Huntsville, Alabama. The workshop will be held in collaboration with the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC).
Virtual Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Program Covers Reliable Drone Technology
The Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) virtual program, “Supporting Safe Reliable Drone Technology to Address COVID and Routine Implementations”, occurred Nov. 23-24, 2021. The program was focused on the implementation of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), or drones, and related standards and policies.
The self-funded APEC program, submitted by the United States and co-sponsored by nine APEC economies, provided the means for dialogue among domestic and international public and private sector stakeholders, including the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
ASTM International Acquires Global Additive Manufacturing Intelligence Leader Wohlers Associates
Today, global standards organization ASTM International announced the acquisition of Wohlers Associates, a global intelligence leader in the additive manufacturing (AM) and 3D printing industry. The announcement coincided with the Standards Forum at Formnext 2021, which serves as the leading trade show for AM and next-generation intelligent manufacturing solutions.
Virtual Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Program Addresses Additive Manufacturing of PPE
The Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation virtual program for the project on “Addressing the Last Mile of Additive Manufacturing Use for PPE – Assisting Regulators” was conducted on Oct. 27-28, 2021. Consistent with ASTM’s commitment to serving global societal needs that address health and safety, consumer confidence, and the overall quality of life, ASTM International was an integral part of planning and implementing this US self-funded APEC project.
ASTM International Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Mexico’s National Standard Body
ASTM International and Mexico’s national standards body, Dirección General de Normas (DGN), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Oct. 29. DGN, part of Mexico’s Ministry of Economy, coordinates the development of standards and regulations and promotes standardization use in Mexico.
Kathie Morgan, president, ASTM International, and Alfonso Guati Rojo Sánchez, general director of standards in Mexico’s Ministry of Economy, signed the MoU.
Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence Announces Second Call for Projects
Today, ASTM International’s Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM CoE) announced the second Call for Projects (CFP), allowing non-AM CoE partners to participate in a Research to Standardization initiative to further accelerate standards development for additive manufacturing (AM).
