Dublin's Trinity College to Host ASTM Symposium on Contaminated Sediments

The Fourth International Symposium on Contaminated Sediments will be held June 30-July 2, 2009, at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland.  The symposium is sponsored by ASTM International Committee D18 on Soil and Rock and Trinity College in cooperation with the Engineers Ireland, Canadian Civil Engineering Society (CSCE) and the Canadian Geotechnical Society (CGS).

The symposium is a forum for the dissemination and debate of sustainable scientific and engineering advances in remediation and the management of contaminated sediments found in major ports, harbours and rivers from around the world.  Topics will include:

-  Case Studies (Oslo Harbour, Cardiff Bay, Hakata Bay Japan, Taranto Harbour Italy, Clyde Canal Glasgow, Lac Saint-Pierre Quebec, Venice Lagoon, Svartsjo, Tolka River Dublin);
-  Ecotoxicology;
-  Sediment quality assessment tools;
-  Sediment transport;
-  Risk assessment and partition coefficients;
-  Engineered remediation technologies and dredging; and
-  Stakeholder needs and expectations.

The standard registration fee to attend the symposium is 675€.  The student registration fee is 325€. Registration fee includes conference reception, Irish banquet and a bound volume of the peer-reviewed papers, which will be sent to attendees after the symposium.

ASTM International Committee D18 is one of 141 ASTM technical standards-writing committees.  The committee develops standards relating to the physical and chemical properties and behavior of soil, rock and the fluids contained therein. These standards, which primarily support the construction and environmental industries, are used throughout the world.
