ASTM International presented its top annual award – the 2024 Award of Merit – to Cary Black for his contributions to ASTM’s cannabis committee (D37).
The prestigious award, which includes the accompanying title of fellow, is ASTM’s highest recognition for distinguished service and outstanding participation in ASTM International committee activities. Black was recognized for his breadth of industry knowledge, advocacy for quality assurance on behalf of cannabis stakeholders, and his involvement with roughly one-quarter of all D37 standards.
An ASTM International member since 2005, Black had been previously honored by the committee with the Standards Development Award (2023), in addition to committee D08’s Award of Appreciation (2010).
Black is the founder and principal consultant of C.K. Black Group, a position he has held since 2018. His career concentrations include analytical chemistry, quality engineering and management, and good manufacturing practices (GMP) for food safety. Prior to his venture into consulting, he worked as a quality control/microbiology lab manager for Domino Sugar Refinery.
