ASTM Yarns and Fibers Subcommittee at Work on Proposed Polyolefin Chopped Strand Standard

Subcommittee D13.58 on Yarns and Fibers, part of ASTM International Committee D13 on Textiles, is currently working on a proposed new standard, WK18377, Specification for Polyolefin Chopped Strands for Use in Concrete. WK18377 will include test methods used to measure the attributes required for the intended use of the proposed standard.

Primarily, the proposed standard will provide manufacturers of chopped strands intended for concrete application with uniformity in their testing and some minimal specifications to insure suitable quality to the market for the intended end use of these products. Manufacturers, designers and engineers, contractors and property owners will all be likely users of WK18377.

Support for the proposed new standard from textile manufacturers has been strong. Like other new standards, we anticipate that there will be multiple revisions in the future that will reflect changes in the market. Anyone who is interested in polyolefin chopped strands intended for concrete should participate.

Committee D13 meets June 22-25 during the June committee week in Denver, Colo. For meeting or membership information, contact Jennifer Rodgers (phone: 610-832-9694; jrodgers@astm.org).
