ASTM International's Support of Riverbend Environmental Education Center Continues

ASTM International, West Conshohocken, Pa., continues its support of Riverbend Environmental Education Center in Gladwyne, Pa. Students from elementary schools in the Norristown Area School District visit Riverbend to gain hands-on experience for the lessons learned in their science classes.

On Oct. 10, Carla Falco, Manager, Product Promotion, ASTM International, spent time with 65 fourth graders from Whitehall Elementary School during their visit to Riverbend.  In the photo, students show Falco a specimen collected during a section of the program devoted to meadow insects.  Whitehall students, who also visited Riverbend earlier this year as third graders, had the opportunity to explore pollination and honeybees, decomposers (insects that live under logs) and forest birds, all part of the class' current curriculum on ecosystems.

A group of second graders from Bridgeport Elementary School pose with Barbara Schindler, Director of Corporate Communications, ASTM International, at the Charles Lieberman Outdoor Classroom at Riverbend on Nov. 10. The outdoor classroom is used as a gathering space for lessons and for bird observation. Behind the students is Snider Barn, Riverbend's main building, which includes offices, a teaching space and a live animal collection.  On this day, the Bridgeport students were learning about animal habitats as part of their regular science curriculum during their Riverbend visit.
